This is a general page including information about the Unofficial MyFord Mobile app.

Application Privacy Policy

This section of the page is intended to describe, in a somewhat layman’s manner, the application privacy policy. This policy was last updated on July 10, 2017.

Terminology

  1. “The Developer” refers to Michael C. Bazarewsky, the developer of the application.
  2. “The Application” refers to the “Unofficial MyFord Mobile” application by The Developer. The Application was not created by, and is not endorsed by or affiliated with, The Ford Motor Company.
  3. “The Site” refers to the MyFord Mobile web site, which is an external web site owned and managed by The Ford Motor Company.
  4. “Your Vehicle” refers to the currently selected automobile in The Application.
  5. “Your Device” refers to the device running the application, e. g. your phone.
  6. “The Navigation Application” refers to whatever mapping tool you choose to use on Your Device, e. g. Windows Maps.

Sign-In Credentials and Session Tokens

In order to provide the basic functionality of the application, it must request sign-in credentials for the The Site. How The Site uses your sign-in information, Your Vehicle information, etc. is covered by The Site’s privacy policy, as linked to at The Site.

The Application uses the credentials for its own use in the following ways:

  1. To pass through to The Site to obtain a sign-in session token for interacting with The Site
  2. To store for future use of The Application, if you enable the optional “Remember Me” feature

If you choose to use the “Remember Me” functionality, standard Windows functionality is used to store your credentials in your user profile. If you have selected to roam credential information between devices in Your Device’s operating system settings, these credentials will be available on other devices where you use The Application. Those credentials are not in any other way stored. If you later change your mind, selecting the “Sign Out” feature in the application will cause the application to purge your credentials from the system credential store, as well as send a formal sign out request to The Site.

Debug Logging and Session Tokens

As part of accessing The Site, a session token is created. If you choose to enable debug logging, and to send that log to The Developer, that session token may be sent in the logging information sent to The Developer. You should be aware that the session token allows impersonating you as a user on The Site. The application warns you about the potential privacy implications when activating this feature; you are under no obligation to enable debug logging at any time, and the functionality exists solely for troubleshooting an issue in communication with The Developer. This log is only stored on Your Device unless you choose to send it to The Developer.

Location Information

As part of the vehicle location tracking feature, The Application requests Your Vehicle location from The Site, and displays it to you in The Application, allowing you to get walking or driving directions from your current location to Your Vehicle’s location. Your Vehicle’s location is displayed on a map supplied by Microsoft map services, which have their own Terms of Use that are incorporated herein (refer to the subset “Limited Website and Consumer App Use” for the applicable sections.) If you choose to use the routing function, that request will be sent to The Navigation Application on Your Device, at which time the privacy policy of The Navigation Application will apply. Note that Your Device’s current location is only used by The Navigation Application in this scenario; The Application does not need this information directly for any reason. (Future functionality in The Application may use this information, in which case this policy will be updated.)

Vehicle Interaction

All functions involving interacting with Your Vehicle (e. g. a door unlock request) are sent directly to The Site, which handles all interaction with Your Vehicle. At no time does The Application directly interact with Your Vehicle.
